A Passion Play-where does it stand today?

I'm interested to know what other Tull fanatics think of APP. To me it stills stands as one of their best studio albums. It was always going to be difficult to follow TAAB, and although Play achieved No1 in the US charts on the back of TAAB it was roundly hammered by the critics of the day. Highlights for me on the album are Ians's classical-style acoustic guitar playing (as always) and the 'Zappa-esq' instrumental in the early part of side 2.
I played the album to my wife yumumy and when she heard the bit "All the old familiar choruses come crowding in a different key" she described it as pretentious, wanky and a pale imitation of Queen!

Passion Play is definitely not Pop Music. As for an Imitation of Queen, I don't think so. The Music was experimental and not well accepted by the music critics of the day, Yet, music teachers and Musicians I knew thought the musical style and production of the Album was exceptional and complicated. I remember reading an interview at the time with Anderson stating that he felt that music for him and the Band needed to become for intense and difficult, getting away from the earlier styles, which is what Passion Play did, after that Album the band moved on to more variety in there style. Passion Play was the end of the early era and the beginning of the Middle Era of Tull. I love the album.
